The Paterson Family Success Center, located in the heart of the downtown historic district, is part of the revival of new life in the Paterson renaissance. It serves as a “home away from home” for more than 500 families in the community. Directed by a very small staff of two full-time support workers and a host of parent volunteers from the local community, the PFSC as it is nicknamed, is often one of the few places a parent, family or young adult can come when they don’t know where else to turn. The Paterson FSC is rich in resources and connections with more than 35 local community based and governmental agencies who they can refer their families to in their time of need. The PFSC has successfully networked with various sectors in their community for the purposes of building the safety net for the families it serves as well as expanding its funding base. The Paterson FSC was recently selected to receive a small grant from the Wells Fargo Community Partners Program; it serves as a satellite extension of the One Stop Career Center (in partnership with the Workforce Investment Board of Passaic County) providing employment readiness services and is in the process of partnering with the Passaic County Drug Court to identify resources to support individuals in recovery on their journey to self-sufficient living.
The PFSC has had a successful track record partnering with local retailers to serve its families’ needs through: Annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway, Annual Model Parents of the Year Recognition, Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, the “Gift of Warmth” Coat Drive just to name a few. One of the more exciting initiatives the agency has planned this year is its Community Baby Shower where the agency will reach out to local donors, retailers and anyone who has a heart to give to babies. The goal of this effort is to stock a local pantry with pampers, baby milk, blankets, onesies, and other essential baby needs. This stock pile of baby products will serve as a storehouse for parents of newborns and toddlers when their resources are not sufficient to meet the needs of their infants. The Paterson FSC is pleased to celebrate its Grand Re-opening this Thursday, June 16, 5-7pm at its new location, 79 Ellison Street, Paterson, NJ on the first floor of the newly constructed Cablevision Building.
